Heidi's Pick for MDSM#66!

I'm so pleased several of you took on the challenge of a shaped card.  I hope you learned some things in the process and will try is again soon.  We had some great entries, so make sure you scroll down and check them out!

Let's check out the top picks as selected by Heidi!

Wowzers, what a fabulous couple of butterfly cards!  Not only did Suzanne come up with a fun fold, but she got super creative with coloring her butterfly stamp.  Make sure you check out how she did it!

I love that Sue chose a shaped masculine card.  I don't recall seeing any specifically masculine cards in the past, and I hadn't thought of a ship card.  This card is a refreshing change, and I love that she made it a graduate card!  Superb!

Congratulations Ladies.. and a Big Thank You to everyone who played along with us.

MDSM67... It's about LIFE!!

Hi everyone, Beth here with this weeks sketch challenge for you.

As most of you know, Stampin' Up! has teamed up with Becky Higgins of Project Life to bring her scrapbooking Style to SU!  And, luckily for us MDS Fans, they have also decided to bring the Project Life items to us in digital form too!

For this weeks challenge I would like you to think inside the box, Project Life style.  Choose one of the page templates in the Project Life style, or start with a photo template in your MDS system, and create a page that has a Project Life style to it.   You do not have to use actual Project Life cards or stamps, you can also use any of the MDS Pocket card downloads, or even create your own.  Some of the MDS Pocket Card downloads include: "Chillin' Out Pocket cards",

"Do your Best", "What a day", "Happy Things", "Grateful", "Hello Fall", "Remember the Joy", " Retro Fresh", and " Rise and Shine".  There are probably more, I was surprised at how many there were when I was making the list!   And with your creativity, the list is endless.

To the right are two Project Life style templates to get you started.
We can't wait to see how you add your own flair to this scrapbooking style.

Holly's Picks for MDSM65!

What a great set of pages for MDSM65... I love how everyone made my Sketch your own and they were all so different! It wasn't easy but I was able to narrow it down... Let's see who the Top Picks are:

I love how Lorrie added so much texture to her background.. and her fun additions of Nature elements.

Suzanne

This page came out great.. I love the photo as the background and how she incorporated the photos into her elements.

What a great page to showcase all those beautiful flowers. The elements in the background are perfect. I love the pop of flowers she added.

Congratulations Ladies.. and a Big Thank You to everyone who played along with us. We'll see you all back here tomorrow for a new challenge!

MDSM66 Let's get in Shape!

It's Heidi, and I'm hosting this week's card challenge.  We're really interested in getting you more comfortable with My Digital Studio, so I'm going to issue a bit harder-than-usual challenge.  Hang with me; it'll be worth it!  My current hybrid card obsession is shaped cards.  There are lots of MDS shapes that can be used as a card base - a canning jar, an owl, a lava lamp, an oval, a hexagon, a pumpkin, a cupcake.  You get the idea.  If you need to brainstorm, start with punch shapes.  You can use stamp images as well.  Even custom punches would work.

Think you need an e-cutter to make a shaped card?  Nope!  Although feel free to use one.
  • Design and size your card base in My Digital Studio and print out on card stock.  With this method, make sure to create a mirror image of the card front for the back of the card base, and pay attention where your score line will land.  Then hand-cut your card base.
  • Keep in mind to preserve as much of the score line on your card base so your card is robust and doesn't fall apart.
  • My favorite method, to avoid printing on card stock, is to design and size in MDS and print on copy paper.  Print only one of the shaped images, then after scoring the card base, temporarily adhere the copy paper to the card stock and trim the card stock and copy paper simultaneously.  Move the copy paper around before cutting to maximize the retained score line.
  • Repeat the process to embellish the card.  Design and print in MDS, followed by hand-cutting, or print or use the copy paper method for adding traditional Designer Series Paper.
Here's a video of how to create a shaped card from My Digital Studio, as it was happening.  :)

And in case you are interested, here's an example of how to make a shaped card using Silhouette Studio.

Be sure to read the guidelines above under "About MDS Monday".

Check out what the Design Team created below... We hope you will join in the Fun. The challenge is open until Friday May 23rd @ 11:55PM EST.

Tami's Picks for MDSM#64!

Thank you so much for participating in MDS Monday #64!  I enjoyed seeing your sparkling entries.

Time to check out the top picks this week as chosen by Tami!

I can't help but pick my mother's card on Mother's Day!  I love all her attention to detail, especially the way she recolored the sequins and wrapped the twine around her tag.  I also think Lorrie's color combination is just gorgeous with all the variations of purple.  I'm so glad she started playing along with us at MDS Monday!!!  Happy Mother's Day to a talented and awesome mom!

Susie's card was incredibly beautiful too!  I love the doily in the background, as well as all the layered flowers.  What a pretty twist to the template!!!  The designer series papers Susie used are some of my favorites, and make for a gorgeous color combination.  Awesome job!

Joan's Picks for MDSM#63!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for MDSM #64 - it was fun seeing the different interpretations of the sketch!

Time to check out the top picks as chosen by Joan!

I love how Kris has dropped a single photo into all of the parts of the sketch. Since she used a subtle background, and added a drop shadow to each section, it looks like you're looking through a fancy framed window onto a wonderful scene. Wonderful job, Kris! ~Joan

I love Julie's choice of an "old" MDS kit and the embellishments she chose. I haven't thought of using two staples crossed over before - good idea! I also love how some of her pieces are skew - which is exactly how you feel when you're under the weather! Great page, Julie! ~Joan

Be sure to check back tomorrow for a brand new scrap layout from Holly!
