Beth's Picks for MDSM#74

A big Thank you to everyone for playing along with my sketch this week!  I know it was a challenge to find just the right photos to use in this challenge, so I appreciate all your efforts!!  All the pages were fabulous!  I really loved to see how all the pages came out, and how some of you put a new spin on it! I just love how we can all learn from each other!

Here are the top picks for this week.

Yapha Mason ~ Stamps and Scraps with Yapha

I really think that Yapha used this sketch to highlight Eve just perfectly. She picked colors from her sweater to frame the page, and Eve really does take center stage! Great Job!

Cori Kozak ~ My Creative Chat

Cori got this page in just in time!  And I am so glad she did.  This sketch really works well with sports pages and I have a few of them I need to finish.  I love the stamp choices Cori made on this page, they really bring the whole page together.

Diane Malcor ~ My Diane Designs

Diane's page is just lovely.  The photo is framed nicely and the pop of color highlights the happy couple.  Great page Diane!

Thanks again to all who participated! Check bak tomorrow for another fun sketch! We can't wait to see what you come up with!!

MDSM74 Put it in a box!!

Hi Eveyone! Beth here with today's Challenge for MDS Monday # 74.  For this weeks challenge, I would like you to give the sketch a try and also incorporate the "Grouped Photo boxes technique" but with a twist.  We've done the grouped boxes before, and there are some fun videos about this.  Here is one from Mydigitalstudio.net.

Once you have your photo on the page in the grouped photo boxes, I want you to try my twist.  Un-group your photo boxes and click on the boxes individually.  You can now change them to black and white.  Leave your focal point in color and change the others.  Then find a way to make it stand out by bumping it up or down, left or right, depending on how you've arranged your grouped photo boxes.  One thing I want to point out about this technique is that unlike regular photo boxes, once you've added a photo to a grouped photo box, you can not zoom in or crop, so you need to do this step before adding it to your grouping.

For example, on my page below I wanted to highlight my son David and he wasn't quite where I wanted him on the page, and he was a little too far back.  So, I edited my photo on my computer to zoom in a bit and crop the photo so that he was centered.  Then I added it to my MDS page.  You can take a close look at your photo to help you decide how to arrange your boxes.  Maybe your photo would work best with horizontal boxes, or in a grouping similar to that in the video.  Any way is great so long as the group forms a rectangle and then you bump out  a box to highlight your color photo box. I can'twait to see what you come up with!

Heidi's Picks for MDSM#73

Thanks everyone for playing along with my family tree challenge, including the design team.  All the pages were fabulous!  I really love how all the pages came out so different.  We really have a lot of options with My Digital Studio.

Here are the top picks for this week.

Courtenay Heuston @ Bags That One

I love Courtenay's overlays of background and tree image.  Lots of fun elements on her page, including journaling, stitching, and embellishments.  Very nice page!

Carol Parcell @ C. J. Stamps

Carol created a cleaner page that really draws the eye to the photo.  Such a great memory, and I'm glad she preserved it in a scrapbook page and shared with us!

MDSM73.. It's all about Family!

Hi Everyone, it's Heidi.  Today's sketch is based on a traditional scrapbook page I have created in the past.  I really love seeing heritage/heirloom pages, and this one is based on a family tree.  So your challenge is to create some sort of family tree page.

If you would like to create a card rather than a scrapbook page, I would suggest omitting the photo, and creating a card with a tree image.

There are a few family tree downloads you can incorporate into your page, e.g., Bold Branches, Family History Photobook, Next in Line, and Sweetly Nested Framable.

You may have noticed the rounded title at the top.  Refer to the Video/How To section of this blog to find the Text on a Path video.

Challenge Guidelines:
  • Please create a new MDS project for the current challenge.
  • Provide a link back to MDS Monday or use the Challenge Graphic above within your post.
  • Link directly to your Post for this challenge, not your entire blog. (So we can find your project)
  • You can create a Card, Scrap Page or 3-D Object with the Sketch.
  • The Challenge will end on Saturday @ 12pm EST.
  • Have fun!
